Germany – airberlin Pilot Strike – Nationwide 12 September
Air Berlin (AB) has cancelled more than 70 domestic and long-haul flights after pilots affiliated with the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union launched a strike at short-notice Sept. 12.
Flight cancellations on AB routes, as well as on some AB-operated flights for Lufthansa’s Eurowings (EW) subsidiary, could increase throughout the day at airports across Germany, including at Berlin Tegel (TXL), Dusseldorf (DUS), Hamburg (HAM), Stuttgart (STR), and Cologne (CGN).
It is unclear how long the action will last, though further related disruptions are possible on Sept. 13. Disruptions are also possible across the EW network, as aircraft are held at their points of origin. During the walkout, the airline will likely prioritise longer-haul and intercontinental flights.
Confirm AB and EW bookings for flights scheduled on or after Sept. 12. Make alternative travel arrangements well in advance, as flights operated by other airlines on parallel routes will overbook rapidly. If planning to use ground transport, plan for potential crowding on the regional Deutsche Bahn (DB) high-speed rail services during the strike.
If your travel plans are affected by the above or you require further information please contact your HRG Office.
