Italy – Aviation Strikes May 3 – Nationwide
Air Italy (IG) employees and other airport staff are planning a nationwide strike from 0000-2359 May 3.
The action will coincide with a separate strike by ENAV air traffic control staff 1000-1400 and an additional walkout by Alitalia (AZ) staff at Rome Fiumicino International Airport (FCO) from 1200-1600.
Strikes in Italy are often called off with little prior notice. However, if the actions proceed, they could prompt flight delays and cancellations, particularly between 1000-1600, as well as slowdowns in baggage processing and security screening. The Italian authorities mandate minimum service levels, and the disruption is therefore unlikely to be crippling. Nevertheless, residual flight disruptions could extend beyond the end of the strikes as airlines clear backlogs.
Confirm flights before departing for the airport May 3. Arrive at the airport well in advance of your flight. Allow additional time for check-in and baggage retrieval. Plan for cargo flight disruptions.
If your travel plans are affected by the above or you require further information please contact your HRG Office.
