UK – Airport Staff Strikes Jul. and Aug. – London Heathrow
Staff affiliated with the Unite union are planning to a series of walkouts at London Heathrow (LHR) airport from July 26 over a pay dispute. More than 4,000 workers, including security, customer service, and technical staff across all LHR’s terminals, intend to strike July 26-27, Aug. 5-6, and Aug. 23-24.
Unite is the UK’s largest union, and the strikes are likely to be well-observed. If the actions proceed, check-in and security procedures will be prolonged, causing longer wait times. Knock-on flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, are possible. The strikes will coincide with the peak holiday season, and their impact will likely be exacerbated by larger than usual passenger numbers. Residual service disruption could extend beyond the official strike times, as airlines clear any cargo and passenger backlogs.
Confirm flight arrangements if traveling via LHR during the strike periods. Maintain flexible schedules to allow for possible flight schedule alterations. Arrive at the airport early to prevent seats being reallocated to standby passengers.
